Mahmut Özgener was born in 1963 in İzmir. After graduating from primary school in Gazi Primary School, secondary school in İzmir Saint Joseph, and high school in İzmir Atatürk High School, he graduated from Dokuz Eylül University, Department of Marketing.
He has been working in the tobacco industry since 1987. It also operates in the automotive sector with Vosmer Automotive.
Between 1999 and 2018, he served as the Chairman of the Board of the Aegean Tobacco Exporters’ Association without interruption. Between 2001-2003 and 2006-2008, he was the Deputy Chairman of the Aegean Exporters’ Associations Board of Presidents for two terms. He served as the Deputy Chairman of the Turkish Exporters Assembly between 2006-2008. He has been serving as the Vice President of the Aegean Tobacco Exporters’ Association since April 25, 2018.
Mahmut Özgener, who started his managerial sports career in the Altay infrastructure at the beginning of the 1980s, became the President of Altay Sports Club in 1994 and assumed the role of President of Altay Sports Club for 3 more terms.
Özgener, who was elected as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Turkish Football Federation between 2004-2006, was appointed to the presidency by proxy after the death of TFF President Hasan Doğan as a result of a heart attack. By winning the elections held in August, he continued his duty as the President of the Football Federation until 2011.
He served as the Chairman of the Executive Board during the EXPO 2020 Izmir Candidacy process.
He has been serving as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Izmir Chamber of Commerce as of April 16, 2018, and as a Member of the Board of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey as of May 15, 2018.
Mahmut Özgener, who speaks English and French, is married and has two children.
